After many years of fishing, I have been through numerous rains suits, some good and some very bad. Most of the good ones are gortex, but they after a few years have be treated to keep them effective.
So when it came time to purchase a new one, I had a choice to buy cheap, middle of the road, or to take a chance and buy a top of the line suit. I decided to buy hopefully what will be my last rain suit. I just finished our latest fishing season with the BuckNBass Reservoir Rain suit and here a few of my thoughts.
Not only is this the best rain suit I've ever owned, its backed by a lifetime warranty. Now the saying you get what you pay for is never more truthful than with this suit. This is hands down the best rain suit on the market, from the fully dry cuffs on the sleeves to the high speed hood, the over the top sealed zippers. The full length zipper on the bibs is a genius idea, no more removing your shoes or boots in the rain or cold to get your leg through. This is a time saver and game changer, especially when its rainy and cold you don't what your socks and feet to get wet.
A little more on the dry cuffs, amazing! You can retrieve your catch from your live wells and never worried your shirt inside will get wet. I've done it numerous times over the season and not once did my inside shirt sleeve even get damp. No need to a weigh in January or February again with wet shirt sleeves.
The design of the hood is another ingenious design, I was skeptical on this one for sure. But until I had a chance to test it, it was hard to believe. It works, bottom line. You can bundle up, tighten down the hood and run 60+ plus miles per hour down the river and it won't move, unlike my older ones that no matter how tight you make them they blow up like a hot air balloon with cold air when you take off.
Another small but awesome idea (one of many) on this rain suit, the bibs snap, they are magnetic and are easy and fast to work. This small simple idea makes a big impact.
And one last thing as this season ends, the material on this suit isn't gortex so there is no need for me to treat it in the off season for next year. Wash it if you need to, hang it up and let it dry. Then hit the water in any weather and know your safe from all the elements.
